I’m Sherrie and I’m really glad you’re here.

I’m a lover of tacos, all things sci-fi, Gilmore Girls, mysteries of pretty much any kind, and a good game of pool. I think life is better when you can laugh at yourself, and I feel pretty much the same way about photography. I take getting a great photo seriously. I just don’t think you have to be serious the whole time to get one.

Mile Thirteen Photography gets its name from the river mile marker of the Astoria-Megler Bridge, connecting Oregon and Washington across the Columbia River. If you know Astoria, you know that bridge. To me, it’s one of those landmarks that just feels like home and it seemed like the perfect name for a photography business rooted in this place.

My love of photography started way back in high school with a homemade pinhole camera and hours spent developing photographs in a darkroom. There was something pretty magical about watching an image slowly appear on a piece of paper, and honestly, I still miss that part of photography.

A lot has changed since then (thankfully, because I’m not sure I’m ready to go back to developing film every weekend), but the reason I fell in love with photography hasn’t changed. I love capturing people as they really are…the expressions, the little quirks, the laughs, and those in-between moments that make a photograph feel like you.

I trained at the British Academy of Photography and now shoot with my trusty Canon R6 Mark II. I photograph seniors, couples, headshots, and all kinds of portraits, both in the studio and outdoors. I love beautiful scenery, but I’m always more interested in the person standing in front of my camera.

So whether you’re here for senior portraits, a new headshot or simply because you want some really good pictures of yourself for once, I’m here to make the experience comfortable, fun, and genuinely you.
